Graham's Nursery

Graham's nursery is finally finished. It just needs Graham! We used a natural color palette and green. The pops of color come through in the wall art and Graham's toys. I think it keeps the chaos at bay. We tried to select gender neutral products that can be used again with future babies. We selected products that could grow with Graham and he could use them when he outgrows the nursery. Although we bought some items new, we used a lot of hand me down furniture, and consigned items. The only items that can't grow with Graham would be the bassinet and the crib and other babies will be using those. This is a rental house or we would have painted the walls a toned down aqua color. We haven't child proofed the room for crawling, since  we will be moving to a new rental in a few months and plan to do that in the new rental house. Maybe we can paint the walls then. I am sure a lot of this will change after he arrives and I realize how things will function better.

The End table is from Anthropologie and the table lamp is from West Elm. Matthew knitted the green elephant and painted the piggy bank with chalk board paint. I sewed the natural linen liners for the baskets on the bottom shelf.  The daybed (with trundle) I used growing up. Matthew painted the brass knobs on the bed cream,  to match the rest of the bed frame. The duvet is Kate Spade (from my brother's wife). The steel gray quilt and euro shams is from West Elm. I sewed the long brown linen pillow shams. Matthew's mom sewed the green with brown trim accent pillow.  Small bath toys (until use), rattlers, teething toys, thumbies, and other toys are stored in these bins.

The alligator water color block print is a Walter Anderson. I bought it in Gulfport, MS years ago after I passed my NCIDQ exam. The bookcase is from Target. Pictures, items from Matthew and my childhood, and books are stored on the bookcase. There are two light green storage bins from Land of Nod that are storing puzzles and toys on the bottom shelf that you can't see. There is also a West Elm basket that matches the hamper that is storing stuffed animals that is on the floor behind the daybed and in front of the bookcase. The tweed wool rug is from CB2. 

The steel gray curtains are from West Elm. Lamp shade is from Anthropologie and lamp base is from Ikea. Matthew added dimmers to both lights from Home Depot. Side table is from CB2 and has a Charley Harper print framed on it. The pelican wall art is a Walter Anderson (I should add a second picture under this one). The chair was passed down from my parents to my brother to us. We had is reupholstered and had a swivel glider installed on the bottom. Is is upholstered in a Momentum Loom Source brown tweed fabric and has a stain resistant finish on the fabric. Our sewing lady made the green lumbar pillow on the glider and I sewed the brown accent pillow on top of it.

The bassinet is a fourth generation heirloom on my mother's side. Graham's namesake slept in this bassinet. My mom purchased a new Naturepedic mattress and Matthew repainted the bassinet. Our sewing lady made this beautiful Restoration Hardware inspired natural linen bedding set (from my mom). The pillow and sheet are just for decoration and will be removed when Graham sleeps in it.

I picked up the rocking horse from a consignment sale. The bamboo mobile is by Petite Collage. The frames are from CB2 and have Charley Harper prints in them. The hamper basket is from West Elm. Matthew painted the galvanized bucket with chalkboard paint and it holds all of Graham's swaddling blankets.

The black Jenny Lind Crib is from Babies R' Us (Greenguard lightweight foam mattress from my mom). The chevron crib sheet is by Dwell Studio and our sewing lady made the adjustable crib skirt (from my mom), which is a Momentum Loom Source Apex fabric. Matthew's mom sewed the Boppy cover and I sewed the blue and brown accent pillow. Of course the pillows and blankets will be removed when Graham sleeps in the crib. There is lots of storage underneath the crib skirt, where some of his gear is hidden!

We are going to do disposable and cloth diapers. So, the diaper pail and the trashcan are from Human Scale. My mom passed the dresser down to us. The changing table topper and pad are by Land of Nod and are used by way of Ebay. Clip lighting from Target. Chevron rug from West Elm. Frames from CB2 with prints by Walter Anderson and Charley Harper. As we get pictures of Graham some of the Charley Harper prints will be replaced with his baby pictures. The yard stick was my grandmothers and has grasshoppers painted on it.  The little chair was also my grandmothers. Matthew's mom made the cushion. Some of the new stuffed animals are by Jelly Cat.

The drawers organizers are from Ikea. They unzip on the bottom and lay flat for storage when not in use. The top drawer has disposable and cloth diapers, disposable and flannel wipes, burp cloths, bibs, socks, breast pads, mittens, hats, extra changing table essentials. The second drawer has a few sizes of sleepers, white onsies, onsies, swaddlers, sleep sacks, and day gowns. The bottom drawer has blankets, extra changing table covers, extra waterproof crib mattress cover, shorts, and pants.

Graham's clothes hang in the closet. I made some dividers to separate the clothing by size. There are some clothes that my grandfather, father and both brothers have worn, some new, some from consignment, and a daygown Matthew's mom made. The wicker baskets on the book shelf are from TJMaxx. The black storage bins are from Ikea. I have all the extra baby essentials stored here plus: nursing covers, breast pump stuff, extra crib sheets, bath towels and wash clothes, baby carriers (from Richard and Angie) etc. Extra diapers, wipes, bath toys, 12 month size clothes, solid food feeding supplies, etc are stored on the top shelf. Play mats, bath tub, play yard, etc are stored on the right side of the closet. Stroller (from Mom and Dad) is in hall closet. Diaper bag from Matthew's sister is packed and ready to go to the hospital.

The Nursery: Part I

    We haven't finished the nursery, but we have the main pieces in place! This is a gender neutral nursery with a neutral earth tone color scheme. We still have a lot of work to do, but I feel good that the majority is ready!

      I had an old family chair and ottoman recovered and had a swivel/ glider mechanism installed for the chair. I think it turned out GREAT! Matthew's mom is making a green lumbar pillow to match our crib skirt for the glider. We will add artwork or a baby picture on the wall behind the glider. The peacock lamp shade is from Anthropologie and the lamp base from Ikea. The Twiggy side table is from CB2 (I don't see it for sale anymore). This is a four generation bassinet. My grandfather, mother, me, and many other family members have slept in this bassinet. I have a new custom mattress coming in and a new natural linen with double ruffle is being made and should be ready by the end of February. I will post the final product! Matthew and I found this wooden rocking horse at a consignment sale this year.

   The black bookcase is from Target (they carry similar bookcases now). The shelves have to be reorganized for the nursery. The alligator block print and water color is by Walter Inglis Anderson and was framed by the Framin Shoppe. It is hung too high. The cream daybed was my grandmothers. Matthew painted the brass knobs cream. The steel gray quilted Euro Shams are from West Elm (they carry a similar quilt now). The duvet is by Kate Spade and a gift from my sister-in-law, a textile designer. I made the brown linen pillow shams. This green pillow will go away and a green pillow that matches our crib skirt will go in the middle. The end table is by Anthropologie. I am working on selecting some storage to go underneath. I think I will have to make it, to get the size I want. I finally decided on a table lamp, so I will show you that when it is purchased.

  The little chair and the yard stick was my grandmother's. I plan on making a cushion for the chair. The dresser is an old dresser from my parent's house. I bought the changing topper used on Ebay, but it is from Land of Nod (I don't think they carry it anymore). It was a funny stain to match, and I think it is close enough. I am going to have a brown flannel cover made for the changing pad. The 2x3 rug is from West Elm. The print  above the changing table is by Walter Inglis Anderson. I will hang pictures of the baby above the changing table and maybe some kind of hook for an heirloom outfit. I am going to do two Simple Human step trash cans in brushed steel from Target. One for cloth diapers and one for disposables. They will go between the changing table and the wall.

At this point, we are leaving the wheels off, to keep the crib shorter, but if we add them, Matthew will spray paint the brass wheels a matte black. We are probably getting the crib mattress from Ikea by the end of the month. The crib skirt is going to be green and should be finished by the end of February. Matthew's mom is making a green blanket to match the crib skirt. The green fabric sample is hanging behind the rails in the picture. I will probably do baby pictures above the crib. I found some frames at CB2 that I like. The steel gray and cream wool rug is by CB2. We are renting the house or we would have painted the walls a toned down aqua. 

    I am thinking through the closet organization and the dresser drawer organization now.

    It is all coming together and I will post pics as we finish projects and get new pieces!
